July 24th- National Tequila Day!

National Tequila Day is quickly approaching! This July 24, be sure to grab a lime and some salt.

Tequila has a deep history. The drink is named after a small valley town west of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. Before receiving the name “tequila,” the drink was known as mezcal wine. The very first commercial producer of tequila to hold a manufacturing license for the drink is still one of the most popular companies of today; Jose Cuervo.

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant. Blue agave is grown in the highlands region and is larger in size and sweeter in aroma and taste than other types of agave plants. Mexican law states that tequila is only tequila if it is produced within Jalisco and limited regions in the states of Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas.

Most enjoy tequila in a cocktail or margarita, but fine tequilas can be savored like a whiskey. With various ways to sip on tequila, it is a drink many can enjoy this July 24. Observe this holiday with friends responsibly and safely at Verde Kitchen & Cocktails. We have an entire tequila menu to share with you on this holiday, including blanco tequilas, reposado tequilas, and anejo and extra anejo tequilas.
