Did you know that last year America ate over 4.5 billion tacos? It’s no secret that tacos are one of America’s favorite foods. Tacos are affordable, filling, and delicious.

Tacos at Verde Kitchen

The word “taco” is the Mexican equivalent to the English word “sandwich.” Tacos are made from corn or wheat tortillas, which are wrapped or folded around a filling. Filling varies depending on your tastes. You can order tacos with spiced proteins like beef, pork, or fish, or you can opt for vegetable tacos. Some tacos even include rice.

Tacos are significantly popular, so it is hard to pinpoint their origin story. According to taco expert Jeffrey M. Pilcher, the word “taco” originates from the silver mines in Mexico during the 18th century. During this time, “taco” meant little explosives, which workers used to extract the ore. A taco was pieces of paper wrapped around gunpowder, which were placed in holes carved into rock. It makes sense that tacos are named after these devices, considering both involve wrapping. However, one involves explosives, while the other involves explosive flavor.

At Verde Kitchen & Cocktails, we are all about tacos. We serve Mexico City street tacos that come with radish and lime. You can order our carnitas taco made with roasted pork shoulder and pork belly, coriander, cumin, salsa verde, and salsa arbol. You can also order our pescado tacos with lightly battered local fish, cabbage, avocado, crema, and grapefruit habanero hot sauce. In addition to these options, we also have barbacoa tacos, pulpo tacos, pollo asado tacos, and much more.
